I’m very proud to share this collection of images from my Photography for Fine Artists course at LCAD. Nearly all of the students who have come through this course have had little or no experience with a camera and its manual functions. The class was originally conceived to provide students with the skills to shoot models for painting reference, but has grown into a class that encourages students to observe the world around them more critically and creatively while developing the camera skills to capture what inspires them. The class is a balanced mix of controlled studio photography, field work in the form of several off campus trips throughout the semester, and independent work outside of class. I absolutely love teaching this course. The course also weaves in dialogue about the professional and commercial aspects of photography. It’s a great feeling to see my students produce work that stands alone as and that informs all other aspects of their fine art. I hope you enjoy all of this incredible work from my students.
